May is ALS Awareness Month. I know that now because of my beloved friend Meghan. Just this past August, Meghan–a 38 year old, vibrant and otherwise super active and healthy woman–received devastating news: the strange nerve issues she was having were the result of ALS. Meghan is brilliant, hilarious, and has the patience of a living saint. She's the mother of a vivacious 10 year old son and a firecracker of a 6 year old daughter. This summer Meghan and her hubby will celebrate 12 years married, having fallen in love at UO as undergrads years before that. She’s been a public school teacher to first and second graders for the entirety of her career, making a lifelong impact on all the lucky kiddos who pass through her classroom. Meghan’s friends and family are still processing what the future will hold. But in true Meghan fashion, she’s still at work and making it to all the kids’ baseball games and not letting fear of the future rob her of energy or spirit. Life is too short for her to waste any precious energy.
The money raised through raffle sales will be divided equally to support two causes. The first of which is Meghan’s team at the 2024 Walk ALS Northwest on Sunday June 2nd. I will be walking that day! It will be a fun morning spent amongst friends and I invite you to join me if you’d like! Once walk finances are squared away, the other half of proceeds will go towards what I’m calling the Meghan JOYFUNd. I know that Meghan and her friends were hoping to find a way to go to Iceland while she still has the mobility to do so. It’s my ambitious goal to raise enough to cover Meghan’s travel expenses to visit this summer. It’s a big goal yes, and if we don’t hit it, that's ok! it will be Meghan’s discretion as to how to steep herself in JOYFUN through YOUR generosity. So if we aim for the glaciers of Iceland but end up at the Headlands in Pacific City, we can still celebrate a great effort!

Raffle tickets are only $10 each so buy a bunch! Because I’m going to be dividing funds, the easiest and most trackable way of going about this will be Venmo. At the end of each day, I’ll update my fundraising page, set aside for JOYFUNd, and plug you into a spreadsheet. You won’t be receiving any physical tickets, your Venmo transaction log is all you need. Be sure to write "For Meghan" in the Memo with the amount of entries you'd like!
